MUA Brown Eyeliner Review

Hey there!

Don't worry! I'm back to doing less random posts again!

I have decided, recently-ish, to wear brown eyeliner instead of black because I feel it is slightly more subtle and since I use quite a natural palette on my eyes it fits perfectly.

As you may have seen in my 'what's in my bag' post, I used to use a beauty UK one but I was coming to the end of it and needed a new one. The Superdrug I went to didn't have any Beauty UK items so I had to find a new one.

I settled on this MUA one which is actually pretty good. It is a little lighter than my old one but it does leave a nice 'smokey-esq' look under my eyes.

Although it is quite a soft pencil and leaves quite a heavy line at first but it blends out very well. The pencil itself is very handy because on the lid it has a sharpener which can be used for any other eye liners as well as itself. It means you don't have to carry around a bulky sharpener as it is already part of the overall product.

This was a slightly shorter post today but I think next week's will be slightly longer as it is a haul compiled of some slightly random things!

Until next time

10 Completely Random and Probably Useless Facts

Hey there!

I got back from Wales (there's going to be a post about one of the places I visited soon) today so I needed a short-ish post that I could prepare before, I decided to write about something a bit random so I figured that writing about some of the useless facts I have collected over a few months would fit the bill. This was a slightly out there idea but I want my blog to be quite light-hearted and not really have a specific label for the content.

1. The plastic on the end of a shoelace is called an aglet.

This is probably a very useless fact but, let's face it, the aglet is a pretty good invention.

2. Stressed spelt backwards is desserts.

Again, this is useless but it shows that even (some) words associated with something bad can be linked with something good.

3. The sentence 'the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog' contains all of the letters of the alphabet.

This one is probably known by quite a few people because I can remember being told it at school but I thought this picture was just too cute to not put in this!

4. Fax machines were invented before telephones.

5. 111'111 X 111'111 = 12'345'678'987'654'321
This one I actually find quite cool because it almost doesn't look possible but it actually is.

6. The elephant is the only mammal that can't jump.

7. Duck quacks don't echo.

No-one actually knows why this is true but it is quite cool!

8. Spiders don't like peppermint oil.

This one, I think is good for people who don't like spiders because if you put it in a bottle and spray it on door frames and window panes then the spiders won't come near your house! Or better yet, spray it on yourself and they will just avoid you! ;)

9.  This one is my personal favourite! A Unau is a two toed sloth.

I actually discovered this word during a game of scrabble when I had difficult letters and I was searching through a dictionary for a word to use! (I still lost!)

10. You don't find cheese on the moon. This one is definitely a joke, my brother came up with it and i decided to use it for a light-hearted fact!

I hope you enjoyed this slightly unusual post and it hasn't made you lose faith in my writing ability! Anyway, have a good week!

DIY (ish) Room Decorations

Hey there!

Sorry there hasn't been any mid-week posts recently! I thought that I would have more time during the summer holidays but turns out, I've been a lot busier than I first thought. I am also going to be busy for the next few weeks too so I am preparing a few posts for the next few Saturdays.

Today's post is going to be a 'Room Decorations' one and some of the ideas are things that you can buy but others are just ideas I have come up with myself.

1. My 'beach in a jar'

I have some shelves in my room and I wanted to make them quite unique and my style. I used a small 'clippy jar' from Ikea (£0.80) which I also had in a previous post and put hair bows in it. Of course this is a different one but I wanted it to be a little different and I also wanted somewhere safe to put all of the tiny shells I've collected over the years from visiting different beaches. (that sounds slightly sad but oh well!)

I put the tiny 'twisty' shells that I've found into the bottom of the jar (I wanted to add some sand but I didn't have any!) and I think it looks quite cool! You could make a similar jar using a regular jam jar or a mason jar and put anything you like in it really, you could put photos in it to create a small memory jar or glitter or something like that! It is all up to you and what your taste is.

2. My coloured LOVE sign

My Mum actually found this sign in 'Dunelms' (which is a shop in England where you can buy loads of home stuff) when we were shopping for things for my room (we recently re-painted my room). I thought it was super cute and just my style because I love colour and it is, I don't know, just me! However, I don't remember how much it was (definitely less than £10) and I don't know if it still in the shops.

On the backs of all of the letters are these little hooks which you can use to attach the sign to the wall or you can just stand it up like I do.

3. Fairy light pot

In my beauty storage post I also showed a small candle holder which I stored my make-up brushes and I also have a white swirly 'planter' from Ikea, £1.90, which I have some fairy lights in (also from Ikea £5 I think). I think it looks so cool when it's quite dark and looks quite magical when it is combined with the next item.

The holes in the sides of the planter let the perfect amount of light out and the pattern at the top is just so pretty!

4. LED tea lights

I like these LED tea lights because  they are much safer if you fall asleep with them on than real candles with actual fire are. They also flicker just like a flame which creates a really pretty lighting and makes them seem even more real. I got these ones from 'Hobbycraft' and were £4 each I think. It is a good idea to get good quality ones otherwise they will just break or the batteries may run out very quickly.

I think my shelves look really magical when I turn off all my lights and turn on the tea lights and fairy lights! :)

5. Giant tea cups

I really like these giant tea cups, my mum found them in the back of a cupboard and I thought they would look really cool. One of them had my cotton wool in it and the other has a tea light in it.

They are both brightly painted and fit in with the style of my room perfectly. (These tea cups are actually quite hard to write about! It was quite surprising!)

6. Tiny Bucket

This tiny bucket was from 'Hobbycraft' again and I'm fairly sure it was around £1-1.50. I also don't think it was actually meant for the purpose I use it for, but oh well! I put one of the LED tea lights into it and the butterfly patterns on the side let the glow through in a very pretty way!

This post is more to show you that when adding decorations to a room they don't have to be expensive and elaborate, they can be homemade or pretty cheap. Even taking a look in charity shops you can find some cool things!

I hope you guys are having a great summer (or winter depending on where you are!) and have a good weekend.

Washing Make-up Brushes

Hey there!

Sorry there wasn't a post on Thursday this week! I was super busy and didn't have time to write one.  This post has been one I have been trying to decide how to write and show in photos/videos. It has been quite hard but hopefully this style will work! If the videos I have don't work then I will do my best to describe how to was your make-up brushes.

First up you need a towel to lay the damp brushes out on, I choose to put them under my radiator, not because it is on but because it is out of the way and I am less likely to forget they are there. (Of course you will also need your brushes!)

You will also need some soap or shampoo or something similar. I find that any liquid soap works well enough but also everyday shampoo or and specific brush shampoo would probably work too!

Once you have wet the brush and squirted an amount of soap onto it (enough depending on the size of the brush itself) then you can start to wash it. It is a good idea to do this in running water but you can also use a bowl of water too. The method I have found very effective is to rub the brush on your palm in a circular motion. After rinsing the brush to make sure all of the soap suds are gone it is a good idea to run the brushes under running water until it runs clear so you can be sure that they are completely clean.

After rinsing the brushes you should squeeze out as much of the water as you can before laying them out on the towel to dry.

I find that it is a good idea to try and wash your brushes once a month to keep them clean and free from bacteria which could cause breakouts. However, It is all very well me saying this but I probably don't wash my brushes as often as I should! *oops* It is also a good idea to wash your brushes when you don't need them for a while because they will probably need a few hours to dry, unless you have a different set of brushes and can still use the ones which are not wet.

My brushes are a bit of a mash-up of makes and types. Most of them are actually from a set from 'Sports Direct' and are by Sarah Ashton, I also have a couple from Primark and then a blending brush from 'Barry M'. I will probably invest in some new brushes at some point in the near future but since mine work fine I don't really see a reason to get new ones. However, I have heard that both the 'Real Techniques' and 'Zoeva' brushes are good.

Anyway, I guess that's it for this post, I hope you enjoyed reading it and that it did help anyone who didn't know how to or even realise that they have to wash make-up brushes!

Until next time

(I did have some video clips for this post but I couldn't get them to upload so I had to just describe the process so I hope it made sense and was easy-ish to follow.)

July Favourites

Hey there!

Wow! Another month has gone so fast, I can't believe that it is August already! Anyway, since it came around so quickly again, I thought I would do another favourites post.

First up is another 'Impulse' spray. I really love these body sprays because they are quick to use, have a variety of smells (most of which are very nice!) and have quite a streamlined can (which I like).

The smell I have in this is called 'Tease' with the scents of 'red fruits and woods', I brought this fairly recently as my old one was running out and I couldn't find an exact match. I wasn't really expecting to like it all that much but I have been surprised by it!

I actually really love the colouring of the can and the butterfly design, I think it is very pretty. (You can buy impulse sprays from multiple shops like Boots, Superdrug or Tesco in the UK but I don't know if they are sold anywhere else in the world).

Next is another new-buy. It is a BB cream from 'Miss Sporty'. Recently I haven't wanted to wear thick make-up, and by 'thick' I mean foundation, concealer then powder. Instead, with BB cream, I can just have a thin layer and then a little powder. I think that my skin has improved so much and if you guys are struggling at all with skin-related problems I do recommend going a few day a week with as little make-up as possible to give your skin a chance to 'breathe'.

This cream is very light and doesn't leave your face feeling cake-y or overly 'made-up'. Overall, I think that it is a great product, it doesn't cover up everything but it still does very well in my books!

I have it in 'Beach radiance' but it also comes in 'Nude radiance' which, I'm guessing, is a shade lighter because I don't buy the lightest shade of the product but I could be wrong.

A while ago I brought a Maybeline 'Baby Lips' because everyone was raving about them, so, I thought I would give it a try to see what all the fuss was about. I got the 'Hydrate' one but there is also a wide selection of different tints and types.

I was pleasantly surprised by it, although it makes my lips feel quite waxy it does make them very soft and is very hydrating. It tastes and smells a little like water, I think, but I actually really like this and I also quite like the feel of the balm once it is on.

The packaging is also quite cool! You couldn't forget the name anyway! ;)

I also needed a new make-up bag (mostly because my old one was too small to hold all my most-recent purchases) and I have always likes square shaped ones because I think they are a really useful shape and can hold a multitude of things. I then decided on this pink and white striped/spotted one from Primark because it was a perfect size and was so cute!

It has plenty of space inside (I won't show you because it is a little hectic inside it at the moment!) and it is quite easy to find things. You can fit quite a few things inside and still have space for more which is always a bonus! I really do love this bag and it feels like good quality so it should last me a while! Primark really never ceases to amaze me with some of their products!

The last thing that I have been loving (not in general, just the last thing I decided to add into this post!) is warm weather. I realise that it is not like it for everyone at the moment but where I live in the UK it has been quite hot recently. Some people really hate it and wish it was cooler but personally I love it, especially when it includes thunder storms (most of which occur in the middle of the night)! I love it that I can sit in my garden until 10-11pm and not be too chilly. It can be quite humid at night but it is still nice knowing that summer has finally come and that it has been around for a while! Now I am writing this it will probably be horrible weather tomorrow and I will have jinxed it! (Sorry to anyone living in the UK if it rains tomorrow!)

My aim for the next month (well, this month) is to blog about some different things... What do you guys think? Any suggestions for what you want to see?

Until next time
