The Key Frame

Hey guys!

This post had to go up a little later today as it took me ages to make the DIY! I was expecting it to only take a couple of hours too! *oopsies* While browsing Pinterest, I saw a few ideas that involved frames, including ones around light switches and ones that had hooks for keys inside. As soon as I saw the one for keys, I knew it would make an awesome blog post! I'm so excited to show you! It would make a perfect present for someone, or just a really nice piece for your wall! What makes it even better is that it's practical, so you'll never lose your keys again! I'll go through what you'll need to make it first and then the steps of how I made it.

A frame is key (get it? ;) I know, lousy joke!), This gold one, I found in a charity shop for £3. It had a slit in the side for putting money into as it was originally a money box frame, you could put a photo of something you wanted to save up for behind and then put the money in. It's a pretty cool idea, it just wasn't what I wanted to use it for! I loved the detailing though, it was also absolutely perfect for the look I wanted!

You'll also need; some hooks, paint of your choice, paintbrushes, an old towel and kitchen roll (paper towels) to put the brushes onto when they have paint on them. For the paint, I used what was left over from when we painted my room (antique ivory) but if you would need to buy it, tester pots may be easier, as they're smaller and less expensive than buying a big pot for a small project. Optional things include; polyfilla, a screwdriver, sandpaper and masking tape.

I had to sand down one of the edges as part of the paint had started peeling off but it also helps to make the edges smooth and easy to work on. I also needed to fill the hole in the edge with polyfilla. so I covered one end with masking tape to hold it in place, and filled it in layers. You'll want to sand the filler down once it's dry just to give it an even surface; that is, unless you want a more uneven look. Wipe down the frame afterwards with a slightly damp cloth to remove any dust left over.

The choice of paint and colour is up to you, I just used leftover emulsion in Antique Ivory. I think it took about 3 coats to get it not to be patchy but I did have to find a smaller paintbrush to do the details as the big one just wasn't working at all! As the paint underneath was gold, it showed nicely when I sanded the details and edges to give the frame a more 'distressed' look. You don't have to do this but it adds a little more of a 'loved' touch to it, in my opinion.

To put the hooks in, you'll need to measure where you want them to go, rather than just whacking them in willy-nilly! (I was going to do that but after how they went in when I measures, I'm VERY glad I didn't!) I put 3 hooks in, but if your frame is a different size, then add as many as you want/ you think will look good.
(At this point when writing, I clicked off the page by mistake and almost had a heart attack as I couldn't remember if I'd saved it! Gah! This information probably doesn't excite you that much, but I thought you'd like to know anyways!)

To actually screw them in (if you have screw in ones) then I'd suggest hammering them in a little way first and then, when they're in far enough, twist them the rest of the way. It may take a little while, and you may want to use a spare hook because mine ended up very bent out of shape!

By this stage, you should have a key frame! If you don't, then I'm not sure what happened! If you do have a key frame then cool, I'm glad my instructions were ok! *cry-laughing face from Facebook* Although, I'm sure there's something I've left out! I did forget to take a finished product photo! Dang it! I'll add it in in the morning.

I hope you liked this idea! See you next weekend!

stationary, Stationary, STATIONARY!

Hey guys,

I have an awesome DIY post for next week! I think you're going to really like it, and it's pretty affordable too! In the mean time, here is a few bits and pieces I have brought for school, there's not much here but I figured that you probably wouldn't want to see the boring bits like a plain eraser or ruler!

First up is this little diary. This purchase was poor to be honest. The diary itself is great, but I accidentally picked up one starting in January 2016, so I can't even use it for another 3 and a half months! I can't believe how stupid I was, *facepalm* so my tip to you guys is to always double check what you're buying to make sure it is the right one! Oh well, it's still very cute and a perfect size for a handbag, and it'll be exciting to finally get to use it after months of waiting. I'm pretty sure it's A6, and it was 99p from Card Factory. (10 points to you if you remember when I last mentioned Card Factory ;) and another 5 if you remember why! No cheating!)

I never thought I would rave about highlighters, but here I am anyway... These ones are liquid ones and last quite a long time. This is the second pack I've had but the first ones I got for Christmas and only ran out after I highlighted my work to death for my GCSEs. I got a good 6/7 months out of them before their demise though. The best thing is that they're shaped like a pen so they're incredibly comfortable to use and hold. Hmm, so maybe I couldn't rave for as long as I was expecting... anyway, onto the next thing....

Now, these pens will probably make all the artists out there start salivating! They're Copic markers in the shades 'W3 - warm grey 3', 'C3 - cool grey 3' and 'B45 - smoky blue'. I use them in my Design and Technology lessons for shading and creating different shadows. They're honestly the coolest pens I've ever had the pleasure of owning! They create such a great look and the two different tips (brush and chisel) are each great at different jobs.  Usually, Copic markers are pretty expensive but I was given a link to some pretty affordable ones, so it's only fair that I then pass it along to you guys, incase you have been wanting some!

This is another one for the artists out there, or just people who like pencils! This tin of 24 Derwent Pencils is great! There is a wide range of different colours and they all create a very good colour on the page! I'm not sure how much it was, since my dad brought them for me, but even so, it is pretty good value for money, I mean, just look how photogenic the ends are!

Finally, my favourite piece! This A4 Marvel notepad. I love the covers! Both sides have different comic book style pages all over and it has such a great look! I don't own very much that is themed like this book, most things are just plain or a single colour, so I thought this book would be a good addition. I'm going to use it for general notes at school and also blogging! Woo!

(This photo has bad lighting, sorry, because the sun had gone behind a house by the time it had come out from behind a cloud! But here it is anyway)

I can't wait to do the DIY for next week! It's pretty exciting since I haven't really done much proper DIY/upcycling for a while. See you next week my lovelies!

A Box of Surprises

Hey Guys,

Today, one of my closest friends turned 17. It's hard to believe that the girl I met 6 years ago as a (very) small 11 year old, is now old enough to drive (she's still pretty small though)! It's very strange to think that soon I'll be 17 too... I'm going in on a present for her but I wanted to put together something small to go with it. This idea mostly came from seeing all the 'spa in a jar' photos on Pinterest, so I decided to change it up a little. Everything in the box, I brought extra as I gave the same box to one of my other friends who has moved to go to college. It all came from Primark (except the box) and I love all of the little bits and pieces like this that they sell, They can be put together in so many creative ways!

The box itself is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! It comes flat but all in one piece, which I wasn't expecting at all! Once you pop it up, the bottom pieces slot in together and you just push the lid down to make it become lid-shaped! It's honestly, so cool (It was from Card Factory and was around £1.99 I think), so Card Factory, if you're reading this, well done!

I think I'll just list what I put in it (I have photos) but I don't have a photo of everything in the box as I tried really hard to make it look good... but it still failed. I know my friend won't mind but I don't want you guys to see the fail! *insert laughing and crying emoji here* I did, however tie a good bow on top!

None of the things I brought were over £2 and I think it all came to about £9 in the end. I also put some tissue paper at the bottom of the box to make it a little prettier inside.

These nail polishes came in a set of 4 for £2 so I put these two together and put the pink one and sparkly one in my other friend's box.

The flannel came in a set of 2 and was supposed to be £1.50 but I got it for £1, so I'm guessing it was on sale! It's a really pretty floral design but I couldn't get my camera to focus on it!

This is a really gorgeous smelling bath foam and shower gel. It was £1 and it's always handy to have a little bottle so you can have a spontaneous bubble bath.

These tissues came in a pack of 4 and were reduced to 30p! Which has got to be the best deal of the day! They're full-sized tissues but the pack is smaller than usual. There's still quite a few in there though!

I mostly brought this one because I loved the chevron pattern (and it was only £1)! Coconut is also great generally!

These nail polish remover pads come in a pack of 2 with 25 pads in each and were £1. I honestly swear by these pads now! They're great at removing polish and one goes a long way!

These nail files are half the size of regular ones, so they're easy to tuck in your clutch bag or pocket if you're going out. They came in a pack of 5 for £1.

These lollies just came from a giant tub we have. (Not that we completely pig out on lollies all the time! They're left over from a Funday in June) ;)

And all that fitted into the box! I can't wait to give it to her! I hope I've given you an idea for any presents you need to give. I think it would be great for a Christmas present too!

Have a lovely week guys

The Love Hate Tag

Hi guys!

Last week I was nominated to do the Love Hate Tag by Izzy from qthee.com (her blog is awesome so please go and check it out). The last tag I was nominated to do was the Liebster award, which was definitely a lot of fun! The Love Hate Tag is where you write down 10 things you love and 10 that you hate. It gives you guys reading a chance to get to know who I am more and generally what I do and don't like. At the end of the post you then nominate 10 other bloggers to also do the post. It's actually quite difficult trying to find people who haven't already been nominated or already done the tag so I hope the bloggers I've tagged haven't already!

10 Loves:

1. Cats ~ I absolutely adore cats! They're just so cute and sometimes super cuddly! Especially when   they're kittens!

2. Chocolate cookies ~ Chocolate in general is just amazing but the cookies I've been making recently are completely my favourites! (They just so happen to be these cookies)

3. Turtles ~ I've never held a turtle or seen anything more than a terrapin but I still love them. They're just so cool, especially how they can just shoot back into their shells when scared. I wish I had that ability, but probably more when I get embarrassed.

4. Reading ~ Being completely drawn into a story and feeling like you're actually a part of the world is my favourite feeling. I've always loved how writers can create such a vivid picture in my mind just by stringing 26 letters together in various orders, which also leads onto my next love...

5. Harry Potter ~ Ever since I was tiny, I've had the Harry Potter series read to me. The way Rowling writes the story is just breath-taking. I love the way she creates the characters and gives them little quirks that you may be able to empathise with them. For me, that character is Hermione, she's smart but very protective over the people she loves. She also had crazy hair, like I did. I also love the films, Sometimes films can be a little disappointing and not live up to a great story but these ones definitely earned my seal of approval.

6. The Sea ~ The coast has always been my favourite place to be, whether I was visiting Southend or Brighton for the day or if I was on holiday. It's probably the reason I collect sand to be honest.

7. Photography ~ Being able to take a picture that people look at and think 'wow' about makes me feel kind of excited to develop my skills!

8. Snow ~ We tend to get a snow every few years (on average, you may not agree with me if you live elsewhere in the UK) and I love getting to play out in it, sledging, snow-man building and having snowball fights!

9. Watching films with my friends ~ This one is a definite! It's great just getting to spend time chilling out watching anything from the newest release to Disney! Two of my closest friends and I had a High School Musical Marathon last night. Although, I did manage to fall asleep halfway through the last one!

10. Music ~ It's just so relaxing and you can find any song to match your mood! Whether it be happier or sad, calm or stressed.

Now onto the things I hate! Some of them are pretty self explanatory while others are a little odd.

10 Hates:

1. Hayfever ~ Runny nose, red eyes and sneezing. No thank you!

2. People who judge others before getting to know them ~ (Prejudiced people basically!) Although, we have all probably been in some kind of situation like this before. I know I have, so it's probably a little hypocritical of me but I hate myself when I do it.

3. When you sleep through your alarm and have 10 minutes to get ready for the day!

4. The squishy inside bit of cucumbers ~ Just yuck!

5. Teachers and students pressuring you into choosing/liking a specific subject at school.

6. Patronising people ~ There are a lot of people in this world who just try to make you feel as small as possible and I think that's just so unfair.

7. Being told I can or can't do something because it's how the person thinks I should be!

8. Tomatoes ~ I really hate tomatoes, and I can honestly say, I have tried them in the past month to see if I liked them yet. I didn't. Weirdly enough, I love ketchup and any tomato sauces on pasta or pizza!

9. Anti-climatic books and films ~ The feeling I get when a book just ends is not a good one. I hate spending time reading a book for the ending to let it down!

10. Not being able to sleep because you're worrying about something or someone ~ I hate it when my stomach is constantly churning and my brain won't let me sleep!

It was actually really hard trying to think of 10 specific things I hate! I think I'm actually pretty chilled about most things! *awkward background laughter*

I nominate the lovely girls from the following blogs. There's no pressure for you to do it straight away because I know a lot of you will be busy with work or have just gone back to school, college or uni.

1. Nicole Marie - http://thriftyvintagefashion.blogspot.co.uk/

2. Dee - http://promptsbydee.co.uk/

I also realised today that I don't have to change the text when I'm writing these posts to be blue, or be a different font. It does it on its own. It's taken me a year and a half to work that out *facepalm*.

Have a lovely week guys

Twitter Chats

Hey guys!

I'm so sorry this post is super late! My weekend was chock-a-block and I ended up working overtime on Monday. Now I happen to be sitting on my sofa, curled up under a blanket writing this post... as I repeatedly cough and sneeze! Now, enough of the lame excuses and onto the post.

I decided to take this opportunity to tell you about a great new world I discovered! The world of Twitter chats. If you don't know what a Twitter chat is, it's where someone hosts and they have a theme. They then ask questions and you and all the other people taking part in the chat can answer. You can also respond to other people and generally voice your opinion on the subject. I've had some very random conversations following on from questions that have been asked in the chats, but they're all a great laugh!

It also gives a great chance for publicity for your blog. I've traded links with a lot of new people and found so many awesome new blogs in the process!

I'm still relatively new to the concept but I already love it! It gives the chance for you to communicate with fellow bloggers who are in the same position as you. Everyone can also trade tips and advice about the blogging world! I'm so glad I discovered it!

The chats I'm currently par-taking in are:
#BDIB (Blogs do it better) every Monday at 7pm and Friday at 8pm
#TBloggers (Teen bloggers) Saturdays at 8pm
#LTBloggers (Lunchtime bloggers) 1 & 5 pm everyday
#crazybloggers Every Thursday at 7pm
#FBLchat (Fashion, beauty, lifestyle chat) Every Tuesday at 8pm
#ukbloggers Every Friday at 9pm
(all times are BST)

If you know any other good chats to join, please let me know in the comments. I'm always looking for new ones to join.

I don't know if you figured it out from earlier on in the post, but my job hunting went well! I now work on Sundays at House of Fraser. I'm super happy about it too, the people there are so lovely and friendly.

The post on Saturday is going to be the Love Hate Tag as I was nominated by the lovely Izzy from http://qthee.com/. You should go and check her out because both she and her blog are awesome!

Until next time
Grace
